An Anecdotal record is a running description of actual example of behavior of a student as observed by teacher and the counselor. It is followed by his comments.According to Browdin and Martin Anecdotal are descriptive accounts of episodes occurrences in the daily life of the student. Anecdotal record has been defined by Randall as a record of some significant item of conduct a records of an episode in the life a the student a word picture of the student of an episode in action, a word snapshot at the moment of the incident any narration of events in which the student takes such a part as to reveal something which may be significant about his personality.

There are three main types of Educational Research which are as under:-

1. Basic Research
2. Applied Reseach
3. Action Research.

 1. Basic Research or Fundamental Research

Some time this is called"Pure Research".It basic aimed to find the basic truth and reality or principles.According to Travers"Basic research is designed to add to an organized body of Scientific knowledge and does not necessarily produce results of immediate particular value".

2. Applied Research

It is often called "Field Research ".It main concerned is establishment of testing and relationships theories.Applied research control and precision to some extent as to compared with basic research.

3.Action Research

It is some time called "On the Job Research" involving the applications of the steps of the Scientific method to class room problems.In many ways this is same as applied research. According to Best"Action Research is focused on the immediate application not on the development of the entire thoery nor upon common or general application.

The main definition of Research is that the Research directly toward the best solution of a problems.The ultimate goal is to discover cause and effect relationship between variables and though researcher often have to settle for the useful discovery of a systematic relationship because the evidence for a cause and effect relationship is insufficient.
Research main key element to emphasizes the development of generalizations theories  or  principles that will be more helpful in predicting future purposes or occurrences. Research usually goes beyond the specific object groups or situation investigated and infers characteristic of a target population from the sample observed.
